My Silver is set post HGSS, and takes a lot of stuff from the Pokemon Masters EX verse. If you haven't played pokemas all you need to know is he gets a Ho-oh and it's a very touching occasion, okay. (He also gets a Tyranitar but that's slightly less touching.)We don't get a ton of stuff to work with in HGSS, so below is how I read into it, ESPECIALLY Silver's conversation with Giovanni on route 22, that convo is so important for how I see his character oh my god.

Growing up, Giovanni was Silver's idol. The strongest person he knew, completely untouchable. And of course, nothing is more important than being strong. Strong = right and weak = bad was his entire worldview, so when Giovanni lost to Red, it absolutely DESTROYED Silver. His idol? Was weak?? And worse, he was owning it, and was going to go leave and train more so he was worthy of Team Rocket's trust and reliance?? Instead of blaming those weaklings for losing to Red in the first place????So now he's angry and disappointed and confused and has no idea how to deal with any of those feelings, so he simplifies it to I Hate Team Rocket Because They're Weaklings Who're Only Brave In A Group, and I Hate My Dad Because He Relies On Weaklings, and I Hate Everyone Actually I'm Going To Be The Strongest And Never Rely On Anyone Else Again. And of course, anyone who thinks differently is a Stupid Loser Who Doesn't Get It.But unfortunately the Stupid Losers Who Don't Get It (Lyra and Ethan) are also strong, and beat him every time, which pisses him off and confuses him more, because they're so friendly and naive and those things are supposed to make you weak???? Until he's finally forced by them (and Lance) to realize that Caring About Your Pokemon Is Important, and things kind of click and he starts to get it.Which is then a brand new problem, because if caring about your pokemon was the right thing to do this whole time, everything Team Rocket was about was wrong. And even though he had a problem with Team Rocket, it was for being weak, not for treating pokemon like tools or any of the rest of their asshole bullshit. And like, where does this leave his relationship with his dad? How can he ever go back now that he's realized that Being Evil Is Bad, Actually?So when he comes across Team Rocket on Pasio, of course he still hates the weakness of the grunts going around in groups, that part's easy. But the bigger issues of Giovanni pulling all his shit? What about that? Does he condemn it? Does he stand up against it and officially write off that entire part of his life?? Because he doesn't ACTUALLY hate his dad. He doesn't like it when he messes with his friends, and he's sure enough of that that he steps in when that happens, (which Giovanni seems quite proud of,) buuuut the rest of it? It's a very complicated situation.TL;DR Father-Son relationships are complicated, especially when you're born into the mob

Extra background stuff I'm using for my portrayal of Silver. Not canon, but I try to extrapolate my headcanons from stuff we actually know about him.

CHILDHOOD/PRE HGSS- Silver was a horrible child. Look at how he acted at the beginning of the game, and imagine living in a household with a kid like that who considers himself the boss. Genuinely awful.- He only ever behaved for two people: his father, and his nanny. Everyone else was shit out of luck.- Of course he KNOWS his manners. Parties, formal dinners, introductions to important business partners, Silver behaved perfectly fine for those. Because those were Important, and he Knew that messing shit up for his father was Unacceptable.- Was tutored privately like the rich kid he is.- His father was his idol. Read his "you said you were the strongest!!" rant and tell me I'm wrong.- He didn't get to spend a lot of time with his father growing up, because Giovanni is a very busy and important man.- Not even gonna speculate on the Mom issue. I haven't decided what stance I wanna take on that one yet so I'll be glossing over that bit lol.- Was raised eating pokemon meat. Asbolutely no pokemon-vegetarianism here.- Was gifted a fancy pedigreed meowth by Giovanni upon insisting he deserved a pokemon of his own.- Proceeded to then use said meowth to terrorize any Rocket Grunt who made the mistake of being caught alone with him.- Battles were always for keeps. Silver amassed a tidy collection of random pokemon formerly belonging to Rocket Grunts. Some Rockets were able to win theirs back, but no one was brave (read: stupid) enough to try to take the Boss's kid's meowth even if they beat it.- At some point his nanny put her foot down and made him stop, because one little boy doesn't need that many zubats, and the grimer kept ruining the carpets.- Meowth and any leftover pokemon were all left behind when Silver ran away, because he didn't want to rely on anything he'd been given by others. He wanted to prove he could survive and become strong on his own, hence why he ended up stealing Totodile from Professor Elm's lab.POST HGSS- I have more stuff to put here, just... later
